Day 1 Arrive Christchurch

On arrival into Christchurch collect your vehicle at the airport and make your own way to your Christchurch City hotel.

Day 2 Christchurch - Tekapo

Travel today to Tekapo, the location of the worlds largest International Dark Sky Reserve.  You will arrive with time to explore the region and perhaps take a scenic flight over the Southern Alps in the afternoon and in the evening you have the option of visiting the Mt John Observatory on a guided tour with Earth and Sky (pre booking essential).

Day 3 Tekapo - Mount Cook - Queenstown 

On the way south visit the Mount Cook Village. We have included a visit to the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre.

In the afternoon travel to the lakeside resort of Queenstown where you will stay for 2 nights.

Day 4 Queenstown at Leisure

A full day to explore the many sights and activities in the Queenstown region.  Perhaps a jet boat ride with Shotover Jet or dinner across the lake at historic Walter Peak Sheep Station travelling on TSS Earnslaw.

We have included a ride on the Gondola to the Skyline Complex which will give you wide reaching views across the Wakatipu Basin and beyond.

Day 5 Queenstown - Milford Sound - Te Anau

A day trip to Milford Sound is a touring highlight while in New Zealand.  Milford Sound is regarded as one of our most scenic locations with dramatic high mountain sides plunging into the depths of the Sound.  It is even more spectacular when it is raining, as hundreds of waterfalls descend over the craggy rocks.

Following the included cruise you will travel back along the Milford Highway stopping at the small lakeside town of Te Anau for the evening.

Day 6 Te Anau - Dunedin

A half day journey will take you to Dunedin, an historic city with beautiful old buildings including the Dunedin Railway Station building.  If you leave Te Anau early enough you will arrive in time to partake in an optional afternoon sightseeing tour of the city or an excursion to visit the wildlife on the Otago Peninsula including penguin sightings, albatross and seals.  To get to Natures Wonders we recommend you pre book a tour with Awesome Wildlife Eco-Tours (optional).

Day 7 Dunedin - Christchurch

Return to Christchurch along the eastern coast of the South Island passing through the towns of Oamaru and Timaru.  Overnight in Christchurch before your departure.

Day 8 Depart Christchurch

Today return your rental car to the airport before departing.
